Our Story

Hi there, and welcome to Bear’s Den.

We’re proud to introduce the newest addition to Cookietop Mountain. When you build a dream, it’s rare—and incredibly special—when your family embraces it with you. That’s exactly what happened here. When the opportunity came to continue a family tradition, our daughter and son‑in‑law, Alex and Trey Leatherwood, stepped forward with excitement and vision. Together (Walt, Kristina, Alex, and Trey), we brought Bear’s Den to life.

From the start, Alex and Trey knew exactly what they wanted this place to become: a retreat that feels like coming home, even on your very first visit. A space where you can breathe a little deeper, unplug a little longer, and experience the magic of West Virginia. Alex grew up with that magic—Trey wholeheartedly embraced it.
